"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis maskulinitas dan femininitas pada tokoh Tsuneo Isaka, Hisae Isaka, dan Kyoko Shinjo dalam novel Kasha karya Miyuki Miyabe (1992) setelah peristiwa resesi ekonomi Jepang tahun 1990-an. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori maskulinitas dari R. W. Connell (2005), teori feminisme liberal dari Rosemarie Tong (2009), dan teori representasi dari Stuart Hall (1997). Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis teks untuk menganalisis data dalam novel berupa dialog dan tuturan pengarang yang berhubungan dengan maskulinitas dan femininitas pada tokoh Tsuneo Isaka, Hisae Isaka, dan Kyoko Shinjo dan menjelaskan maskulinitas dan femininitas pada ketiga tokoh tersebut menggunakan teori maskulinitas dari R. W. Connell dan teori feminisme liberal dari Rosemarie Tong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa maskulinitas dan femininitas yang dimiliki tokoh Tsuneo Isaka, Hisae Isaka, dan Kyoko Shinjo merupakan jenis maskulinitas dan femininitas yang berbeda dari maskulinitas dan femininitas hegemonik di Jepang. Tokoh Isaka memiliki maskulinitas yang gemar akan pekerjaan rumah tangga serta menjadi sosok laki-laki yang tidak ragu untuk memperlihatkan emosinya. Sementara itu, femininitas Hisae ditandai dengan menjadi pengusaha perempuan dan pencari nafkah utama bagi keluarganya. Femininitas yang dimiliki Kyoko juga tidak biasa karena Kyoko adalah perempuan kriminal yang membunuh dan mencuri identitas perempuan lain demi mencapai keinginannya.

This study aims to analyze masculinity and femininity of Tsuneo Isaka, Hisae Isaka, and Kyoko Shinjo in Miyuki Miyabe’s Kasha (1992) after the Japan’s lost decade in the 1990s. This study uses R. W. Connell's theory of masculinity (2005), Rosemarie Tong's theory of liberal feminism (2009), and Stuart Hall's theory of representation (1997). The research method used in this study is the text analysis method to analyze the data in the novel in the form of dialogue and author's speech related to masculinity and femininity of Tsuneo Isaka, Hisae Isaka, and Kyoko Shinjo and explain masculinity and femininity of those characters using R. W. Connell's theory of masculinity and Rosemarie Tong's theory of liberal feminism. The findings of this study are that the masculinity and femininity of Tsuneo Isaka, Hisae Isaka, and Kyoko Shinjo are different from hegemonic masculinity and emphasized femininity in Japan. Isaka has a masculinity that is fond of household chores and is a man who does not hesitate to show his emotions. Meanwhile, Hisae's femininity is characterized by being a businesswoman and the main breadwinner for her family. In addition, Kyoko's femininity is unusual as she is a criminal woman who kills and steals other women's identities to achieve her desires."

"Howl’s Moving Castle adalah film animasi yang disutradarai oleh Hayao Miyazaki yang menceritakan seorang perempuan muda, Sophie, yang mengalami transformasi menjadi seorang wanita tua akibat kutukan dari penyihir. Perubahan yang dialami Sophie mempengaruhi penampilan hingga persepsi dirinya tentang nilai dan potensi diri. Berdasarkan hal itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perempuan tua dan penerapan successful aging oleh karakter Sophie yang direpresentasikan dalam film Howl’s Moving Castle. Penulis menggunakan teori successful aging milik Meredith Troutman Flood (2005) dan kemudian dianalisis menggunakan metode sinematografi yang berfokus pada berbagai tipe pengambilan gambar dan mise en scene yang berfokus pada elemen setting, the human figure dan composition. Film ini menggambarkan penuaan sebagai suatu proses alami yang harus diterima dan memperlihatkan bahwa nilai sejati seseorang tidak terletak pada penampilan fisik semata, melainkan kebaikan dalam diri. Film ini juga menyoroti bagaimana masyarakat sering kali mengesampingkan dan mempersempit definisi kecantikan dan nilai perempuan berdasarkan usia.

Howl's Moving Castle is an animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki that tells the story of a young girl, Sophie, who is transformed into an old woman due to a curse from a witch. Sophie's transformation affects her appearance and her perception of self-worth and potential. Based on that, this study aims to describe the old woman and the application of successful aging by Sophie's character as represented in the movie Howl's Moving Castle. The author uses Meredith Troutman Flood's successful aging theory (2005) and then analyzes it using cinematography methods that focus on various types of shots and mise en scene that focuses on the elements of setting, the human figure and composition. The film depicts aging as a natural process that must be accepted and shows that a person's true value does not lie in physical appearance alone, but rather the goodness within. The film also highlights how society often overrides and narrows the definition of beauty and the value of women based on age."

"Novel The Color Purple merupakan sebuah novel yang menceritakan proses pemberdayaan diri seorang perempuan kulit hitam Afro-Amerika kelas bawah bernama Celie yang harga dirinya diinjak-injak, dijadikan objek seksual, dan kerap mendapat kekerasan dari laki-laki. Tokoh Celie yang menganggap bahwa sudah sewajarnya perempuan menghadapi perilaku tersebut kemudian tercerahkan dengan kehadiran tokoh-tokoh perempuan lain yang menyimpang dari stereotip gender yang berlaku. Secara teoritis, penelitian ini mengungkapkan objektifikasi yang dialami oleh terhadap perempuan, serta perlawanan perempuan dalam menghadapi objektifikasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan kajian kritik feminis, teori objektifikasi Martha Nussbaum dan Rae Langton, dan teori subjektivitas gender Simone de Beavoir sebagai pisau analisis untuk meninjau subordinasi perempuan oleh laki-laki dan bentuk resistensi yang dilakukannya. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pembagian peran gender tradisional terjadi melalui proses yang dilanggengkan di masyarakat. Hal tersebut mengakibatkan perempuat diposisikan sebagai objek seksual, properti dan kekerasan. Di samping itu, keberhasilan tokoh perempuan dalam meraih subjektivitasnya merefleksikan bentuk perlawanan terhadap patriarki yang bersifat individualis tanpa adanya dukungan dari otoritas masyarakat, tempat sistem patriarki itu mengakar. Dengan kata lain, transformasi tokoh perempuan yang bebas dari belenggu laki-laki tidak berpengaruh signifikan pada lingkungan sekitarnya karena tidak mengubah struktur masyarakat yang berlaku.

The Color Purple novel is a novel that tells the self-empowerment process of a lower-class black African-American woman named Celie whose self-esteem is trampled on, made into a sexual object, and often subjected to violence from men. Celie's character, who thinks that it is natural for women to face this behaviour, is then enlightened by the presence of other female characters who deviate from the prevailing gender stereotypes. Theoretically, this study reveals the objectification experienced by women, as well as women's resistance in the face of objectification. This study uses the study of feminist criticism, the objectivity theory of Martha Nussbaum and Rae Langton, and Simone de Beavoir's theory of gender subjectivity as an analytical tool to examine the subordination of women by men and the forms of resistance they do. The result of the research shows that the division of traditional gender roles occurs through processes that are perpetuated in society. This resulted in woman being positioned as sexual objects, property and violence. In addition, the success of the female figure in achieving their existence to be free from objectification reflects the form of rebellion that is individualistic in nature without the support of the prevailing societal authority, a place where the patriarchal system takes root. In other words, the transformation of Celie's character does not have a significant effect on the surrounding environment because it does not change the prevailing social structure."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis alienasi atau keterasingan terhadap penyandang disabilitas yang digambarkan dalam manga Hidamari ga Kikoeru. Penulis mengggabungkan teori komponen alienasi atau keterasingan oleh Seeman (1975) dengan dua metode, yaitu analisis teks oleh Thwaites, et al. (2002) dan analisis film oleh Petrie dan Boggs (2012) dengan pendekatan sosiologi sastra oleh Endraswara (2004) untuk menganalisis komponen keterasingan yang muncul dalam manga Hidamari ga Kikoeru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa manga Hidamari ga Kikoeru menggambarkan alienasi atau keterasingan dengan menonjolkan dua komponen yaitu isolasi sosial dan ketidakberdayaan.

This research aims to analyze how alienation towards disability person depicted in Hidamari ga Kikoeru manga. The author combines the theory of alienation by Seeman (1975) with two methods which are text analysis method by Thwaites, et al. (2002) and film analysis method by Petrie and Boggs (2012) with sociological approach of literature by Endraswara (2004) to analyze the components of alienation that appear in Hidamari ga Kikoeru manga. The results showed that there are two components that appeared in Hidamari ga Kikoeru manga: social isolation and powerlessness."

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini berfokus pada masalah konstruksi identitas dalam fenomena cross-dressing yang ditinjau melalui studi terhadap lima shoujo manga. Konstruksi identitas ini diketahui melalui bentuk ekspresi identitas, identifikasi identitas gender, serta perubahan dan fungsi dari tindakan cross-dressing. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menekankan pada penjelasan dan uraian argumentatif yang didukung dengan penelitian perpustakaan. Proses identifikasi identitas menggunakan kategori gender Bem dan konsep pertunjukan gender Butler. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam fenomena cross-dressing terdapat kecairan identitas dari pelakunya. Kecairan identitas ini digunakan pelaku cross-dressing laki-laki dan perempuan sebagai strategi mereka dalam menghadapi sistem patriarki di Jepang.

ABSTRACTThis study focused on the problem of identity construction in the cross dressing phenomenon which is reviewed through studying five shoujo manga. The identity construction is known through the form of identity expressions, the identification of gender identity, also through the changes and the functions of cross dressing acts. This study is a qualitative research which concerning descriptive argumentation supported by literature studies. Bem rsquo s gender category and Butler rsquo s concept of gender performativity is used in this study for identity identification. The results indicated that there were some fluid identities in the cross dressing phenomenon. This fluid identities are used by cross dressing performers men and women as a strategy to deal with the patriarchal system in Japan."

Metode yang digunakan adalah netnografi, analisis tekstual, dan wawancara. Korpus tesis ini meliputi: lima novel Wattpad terbitan Best Media, yaitu: A: Aku, Benci, Cinta-Wulanfadi, Dear Nathan-Erisca Febriani, My High School Bride-Fallonyu, The Coldest Boyfriend-ItsFiyawn, dan Jatuh Hati-_rahmaa, lima novel Wattpad populer yang tidak diterbitkan Best Media, yakni: Vanilla-@srizqya, Maugy-@pandanello, Marriage With out Sex-@mslostinlove,My Wife is 16 Years Old-@inaka13, dan Bad Girl-@aulialvn, serta hasil wawancara dengan redaksi Best Media dan penulis Best Media. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam proses seleksi dan transformasi novel, tidak hanya penerbit Best Media yang menjalankan peran sebagai cultural intermediary tetapi juga penulis dan pembaca sementara Wattpad berperan sebagai digital intermediary yang menghubungkan ketiga aktor cultural intermediary tersebut.

The result shown that in selection and transformation process, the role of cultural intermediary is not only the Best Media publishers but also the authors and the readers and Wattpad acts as a digital intermediary that connects the cultural intermediaries."

"Tesis ini membahas hasrat seksual perempuan yang dikomodifikasi melalui perspektif konsumerisme dalam novel Beautiful You (2014) karya Chuck Palahniuk. Teks dianalisis dengan pendekatan struktural Roland Barthes, teori feminisme eksistensialis Simone de Beauvoir dan konsep konsumerisme Jean Baudrillard. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa wacana konsumerisme berpengaruh terhadap dominasi gender yang dihasilkan komodifikasi hasrat seksual perempuan. Analisis struktur dan strategi naratif teks membuktikan kehadiran seksualitas perempuan yang terkungkung dan dikomodifikasi tokoh laki-laki. Selanjutnya, posisi tokoh perempuan dikaji lebih lanjut menggunakan analisis semiotik mainan seks dan penafsiran kutipan teks terkait tubuh serta hasrat seksual yang diobjektifikasi. Walaupun terdapat resistensi yang dilakukan tokoh utama, gagasan dominasi laki-laki tetap bertahan untuk menguasai perempuan. Furthermore, the position of female characters are further examined through semiotic analysis on sex toys and interpretation of texts quotations on objectified body and sexual desires. Despite the resistance of the main character, the idea of male domination persisted in dominating women. However, the success was not solely caused by male character. The discourse of consumerism is proven to work in the text to confirm the presence of gender dominance over women. This thesis is expected to be a reflection to the community in dealing with social problems. The results of the study can be used to learn the correlation of commodified womens sexual desire phenomenon with consumerism which is appeared in modern civilization"

"Women’s March Jakarta atau WMJ merupakan sebuah bagian baru dari sejarah perkembangan gerakan perempuan di Indonesia dan pada tahun 2018, isu-isu seperti penuntutan hak-hak perempuan dan penghapusan kekerasan berbasis gender menjadi beberapa tuntutan utama. Dalam meningkatkan kinerjanya, WMJ menggunakan media digital sebagai wadah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang gerakan WMJ tersendiri dan isu-isu yang diangkat sehingga WMJ berpartisipasi dalam digital feminism activism (DFA), yakni dimana strategi aktivisme luring berlanjut ke ranah daring. Aktivisme daring tersebut membantu meningkatkan visibilitas WMJ dan perjuangannya untuk mengedepankan hak-hak perempuan dan masyarakat minoritas. Dari segi visibilitas, perbincangan dan perputaran wacana tentang isu perempuan dan gender menjadi semakin kuat dan bergulir dan dalam prosesnya, rasa solidaritas antar perempuan juga dapat diciptakan. Melalui penelusuran hashtag #womensmarchjkt2018 di Instagram, telah ditemukan bahwa kepemilikan tubuh perempuan adalah isu yang paling dominan pada unggahan poster yang dibawa peserta WMJ 2018. Maka, tesis ini menginvestigasi bagaimana narasi tersebut dihadirkan melalui 20 unggahan poster Instagram WMJ 2018. Di samping itu, tesis ini juga menginvestigasi bagaimana aktivisme luring dan daring yang dilakukan oleh WMJ 2018 melalui hasil penelitian dapat kontekstualisasikan pada gerakan perempuan dan aktivisme feminisme di Indonesia secara umum seperti potensi dari WMJ dan perbaikan yang dapat dilakukan.

Women's March Jakarta or WMJ is a relatively new part of the history of women's movement in Indonesia and in 2018, issues such as the fulfillment of women's rights and the abolition of gender violence became its important demands. To improve its performance, WMJ took advantage of digital media to raise awareness about WMJ as a movement, its pressing issues, hence it's participating in digital feminism activism (DFA) where WMJ's offline practices are continued online. In terms of visibility, discussion and turnover of discourse related to women's and gender issues become stronger and ever-flowing and in that process, solidarity between women can happen. Through the hashtag #womensmarchjkt2018 di Instagram, it is discovered that ownership women's bodies is most dominant as reflected by the uploads of 20 posters brought by WMJ 2018participants. In addition to that, this thesis also investigates how WMJ 2018's offline and online activism is contextualized to the women's movement and feminism activism in Indonesia as a whole such as its potentials and improvements."

"ABSTRACTSetelah Perang Dunia II, masyarakat Jepang menganut maskulinitas hegemonik sarariiman, di mana laki-laki dewasa diekspektasikan untuk menjadi pencari nafkah dengan cara menjadi pekerja kantoran berkerah putih. Namun, setelah resesi ekonomi di era 1990an, ketidaktertarikan dari pemuda Jepang untuk bekerja kantoran mulai terlihat dan maskulinitas-maskulinitas baru pun mulai muncul. Salah satunya adalah maskulinitas alternatif bapak rumah tangga. Manga Gokushufudo bercerita tentang seorang mantan yakuza bernama Tatsu yang beralih profesi menjadi bapak rumah tangga. Dengan metode deskriptif analisis, penelitian ini menganalisis bagaimana representasi maskulinitas alternatif tersebut ditampilkan secara positif di dalam manga untuk memberikan sugesti kepada pembaca bahwa maskulinitas alternatif merupakan sesuatu yang dapat diterima oleh masyarakat Jepang.

ABSTRACTAfter World War II, Japanese society embraced the sarariiman hegemonic masculinity, in which adult men are expected to become breadwinners by becoming white-collar office workers. However, after the economic recession in the 1990s, the Japanese youths interest to become office workers has begun to decline, and new masculinities began to emerge. One of those masculinities is the alternative masculinity of househusband. Manga Gokushufudo tells the story of a former Yakuza named Tatsu who became a househusband. Using the descriptive analysis method, this study analyzes how the representation of alternative masculinity is shown positively in the manga to suggest that the alternative masculinity of househusband is something that can be accepted in the Japanese society."
